How’d This Start?

Maya & Izzie met their first day of undergrad while studying together at NYU’s Experimental Theater Wing.

They founded One & Other Productions in the summer of 2021 after realizing how much their shared values, both in general and artistically, aligned.

Maya Moravec

Maya was born in Guatemala and adopted by an interracial couple who raised her and her younger sister in Chicago. She has traveled to over 60 countries. Maya discovered her passion for entertainment through watching classic movies with her family.

She graduated NYU’s Tisch School of the Dramatic Arts and majored in Drama and earned a double minor in film production and the Business of Media, Entertainment, and Technology. Maya has been acting professionally for 12 years and has most notably appeared in a recurring role in NBC’s Chicago P.D.

Maya is committed to creating opportunities and reflections for those who, like her, saw and still see an insufficient amount of representation in the entertainment industry they can identify with.

Izzie Nadah

Izzie Nadah is an Arab-American producer and actor. As Co-Founder & Co-Director at One & Other Productions she uses collaboration and storytelling to amplify marginalized voices and advocate for social equity. She graduated Cum Laude from NYU Tisch with a BFA in Drama and minors in both producing and philosophy. She is passionate about elevating the work of young artists and values bringing a multicultural perspective to every project she works on.

One & Other relishes in collaborating with artists of historically underserved racial and gender identities to tell stories of inclusion and showcase the richness that inhabits the in-between spaces of culture.

Izzie has produced films that have premiered around the world including at the Cannes Film Festival in the Short Film Corner, La Backroom in Paris, and have been official selections at Holly Shorts, the New York Indie Shorts Awards, The Indie Shorts Awards Cannes, The London Indian Film Festival, and more.

Meet the Team

  • Ruby Rankin

Ruby Rankin is an Australian-English aspiring filmmaker raised in Hong Kong and London. She is currently living in New York having just graduated from NYU with a BA in Psychology and a minor in The Business of Entertainment, Media and Technology. Whilst she was completing her degree Ruby worked as a production coordinator for a 2.4 million follower TikTok show, What’s Poppin? With Davis. Whilst she enjoyed working with short form content, her heart lies in film. She co-produced her first film, In Service with a crew that she has been working with throughout NYU and they eagerly anticipate its release later this year. Ruby also writes and is directing her first film in the fall. She is most interested in capturing stories that explore the circumstance, culture and constructs that converge to form our identities and how these contribute to the wider human condition.

  • Nate Fossella

Nathaniel is a sophomore at New York University studying economics and philosophy with a minor in the business of entertainment, media, and technology. He’s interested in the intersection between film and philosophy, particularly film’s capacity to alter our understanding of shared human experiences. This interest began during a trip to Berlin, where he studied the progression of contemporary German cinema and theater under local auteurs.

He has previously worked as a project manager for Paris Basketball, a professional Parisian basketball team, to release a series of digital collectibles using Web3 technology that celebrated fans and French culture.

In his spare time, Nathaniel photographs Central Park and bakes with little success.

  • Malina Gill

Malina Gill (she/her) is a 1st high honors junior at Pace University, achieving her Master’s in Psychology and minor in Law by 2025. She studies at Stella Adler Acting Studio seasonally, auditioning on the side and appearing in NYU student films. Since entering the film industry in 2023, Malina has been on the set for a feature film as an assistant producer and assistant casting director. Malina plans to attend Law School to make a change in the entertainment industry. Malina hosts virtual classes to destress viewers through her Non-Profit, Gill Theatre Arts Inc., A Non-Profit that provides resources to underprivileged community theater programs. She is a Punjabi/Arab second-generation woman who recognized the prejudice towards her family and friends in the industry, and wanted to make a change. Malina volunteers in lower-income neighborhoods around New York; her favorite form of community service is delivering up to 30 lbs of food to over 50 elderly homebound residents. She loves to volunteer at least 2 hours a week between classes.

  • Carlos Maldonado

Carlos is a Guatemalan writer, director, and producer based in New York City. He has been making movies since he realized could stage his action figures in front of a camera to tell stories as a kid. He graduated from NYU, majoring in Film Producing with a minor in Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology. Through this concentration, along with an internship for the NYU Production Lab, Carlos gained a detailed understanding of the production process and the many avenues of film financing for independent filmmakers. Now with several narrative shorts under his belt, he is pursuing a Master's Degree in Finance to become the adept producer his future work requires. Previously, he’s worked as a director’s assistant for an Academy Award-winning Documentary Filmmaker at A+E Networks, an Artist Relations Coordinator for The Tribeca Film Festival, and as a cinematographer for NYC & LA’s leading demo reel production company, REELARC; as a wide array of roles he wishes to build upon. Carlos’ favorite kind of films are high-concept, character-driven adventures but he is always looking for new, meaningful stories to watch and work on.

  • Sara Morales

Sara Morales, a sophomore at Fordham University, blends her Colombian roots with her Chicago upbringing to pursue her passion for the arts and writing. Majoring in English, Sara plans to double major in Journalism or Film and TV, aiming to broaden her storytelling skills. She currently works at WFUV, a public radio station affiliated with NPR, where she has extensive audio production experience. Having a background in print and broadcast journalism, she showcases her versatility, having her work featured across multiple mediums, including various print publications ranging from magazines to newspapers. Beyond journalism, she grew up heavily involved in the acting scene and consistently honed her passion for classical singing.
